Prof. Tjandra explained the general symptoms of the disease are high fever, shortness of breath and coughing, and lead to pulmonary disorders and severe airway. Treatment is done according to the rules in the hospital management of patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

"Until now there has been no 'travel restriction' to any country, as well as the vaccine is not yet available. Still very small number of cases and continues to be monitored closely by the WHO," said Prof. Tjandra.

Sarapan Bergizi Tingkatkan Konsentrasi Anak

Pakar gizi dari Universitas Airlangga Surabaya Prof Dr Sri Kardjati mengemukakan kebiasaan sarapan dengan mengkonsumsi makanan bergizi bagi anak-anak usia sekolah, berdampak bagus untuk meningkatkan konsentrasi dalam mengikuti pelajaran.

"Masih banyak masyarakat atau orang tua yang menyepelekan sarapan buat anak-anak, padahal sebenarnya makan pagi sebelum beraktivitas cukup membantu fisik anak-anak," katanya saat menghadiri "Pekan Sarapan Nasional" yang diselenggarakan Nestle Indonesia di Surabaya, Sabtu.

Menurut Ketua Persatuan Dokter Gizi Medik Indonesia (PDGMI) Surabaya itu, dari hasil survei yang dilakukan lembaganya, baru sekitar 60 persen anak-anak di Surabaya yang membiasakan diri sarapan, selebihnya tidak pernah sarapan.

"Dari penelitian yang dilakukan selama tiga tahun terakhir, anak-anak yang biasa sarapan dengan makanan bergizi cukup memiliki konsentrasi lebih tinggi dan nilai pelajarannya lebih bagus, terutama matematika dan IPA. Selain itu, mereka juga tidak sering mengantuk di kelas," tambah Sri Kardjati.

Ia mengakui bahwa membiasakan sarapan pada anak-anak memang tidak mudah, tetapi hal itu perlu terus diupayakan agar mereka juga tidak gampang membeli jajanan di sekolah.

"Belum tentu jajanan yang dijual di kantin sekolah atau pedagang itu bersih, higienis dan sehat. Untuk kasus seperti ini, pihak sekolah juga perlu melakukan pengawasan terhadap berbagai jajanan yang dijual di lingkungan sekolah," ujarnya.

Sebagai organisasi profesi gizi dan pangan, lanjut Sri Kardjati, PDGMI terus berupaya melakukan edukasi kepada masyarakat mengenai pentingnya sarapan sebelum beraktivitas.

Sementara itu, program "Pekan Sarapan Nasional" digelar Nestle Indonesia pada 14-20 Februari 2013 di Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, Makassar, dan Medan.

"Country Business Manager Nestle Breakfast Cereal" PT Nestle Indonesia Jose Oscar Yu mengatakan, program Pekan Sarapan Nasional telah dideklarasikan pada 8 Januari 2013 oleh empat organisasi profesi ahli gizi dan pangan Indonesia, yakni Pergizi Pangan, Persagi, PDGMI, dan PDGKI.

"Melalui kegiatan ini, kami berharap semakin banyak masyarakat yang memahami pentingnya sarapan bergizi, terutama anak-anak usia sekolah, sehingga dapat meningkatkan kualitas anak Indonesia menjadi lebih sehat dan berprestasi," tuturnya.

Kelelawar Membawa 60 Virus Berbahaya yang Bisa Menginfeksi Manusia

Siapa tak kenal Batman, sosok superhero berwujud manusia kelelawar? Selain Batman, kelelawar juga identik dengan drakula, monster penghisap darah. Ternyata hewan ini memang bisa dikategorikan sebagai makhluk berbahaya. Ada 60 lebih virus di dalamnya yang bisa menginfeksi manusia.

Beberapa virus dari hewan bisa melompat ke manusia dan menyebabkan penyakit. Sebelumnya, tikus dianggap sebagai hewan yang paling berbahaya karena pernah memicu wabah pes yang melenyapkan separuh populasi Eropa di abad pertengahan. Namun hasil penelitian menemukan kelelawar lebih berbahaya.

"Sepertinya ada sesuatu yang berbeda mengenai kelelawar dalam hal kemampuannya menjadi inang infeksi zoonosis (penyakit manusia yang ditularkan dari hewan)," kata peneliti, David Hayman, ahli epidemiologi satwa liar dari Colorado State University (CSU) seperti dilansir LiveScience, Jumat (8/2/2013).

Para peneliti membandingkan kemampuan tikus dan kelelawar dalam hal menjadi inang berbagai jenis virus. Caranya dengan menganalisa data semua virus yang diidentifikasi berasal dalam hewan. Peneliti menemukan ada 179 virus yang bisa menghuni tikus, sebanyak 68 di antaranya bisa ditularkan ke manusia.

Pada kelelawar, ada 137 virus yang bisa menghuni dan 61 di antaranya bisa ditularkan ke manusia. Walau lebih sedikit, namun jika dihitung rata-rata per spesies, kelelawar lebih banyak dihuni virus. Satu kelelawar rata-rata dihuni 1,79 virus yang bisa menyerang manusia, sedangkan pada tikus hanya 1,48 virus.

Penelitian yang dimuat jurnal Proceeding of Royal Society B ini juga menemukan kelelawar lebih banyak berbagi virus ketimbang tikus. Satu virus rata-rata menginfeksi 4,51 spesies kelelawar, sementara satu virus tikus menginfeksi rata-rata 2,76 spesies tikus. Penyebabnya karena kelelawar tinggal amat berdekatan dengan jutaan kelelawar lain.

Selain itu, kelelawar memiliki masa hidup lebih lama ketimbang tikus, memiliki massa tubuh yang lebih besar, ukuran kotoran yang kecil dan lebih lama membawa virus berbahaya. Yang mengkhawatirkan, ada banyak virus dalam kotoran kelelawar yang sampai saat ini belum dapat diidentifikasi.

"Meskipun manusia jarang melakukan kontak langsung dengan kelelawar, virus dari hewan ini dapat menginfeksi manusia lewat kontak dengan hewan peliharaan yang terinfeksi, misalnya kuda, sapi dan kucing. Kebanyakan wabah rabies pada manusia jika dirunut dapat berasal dari kelelawar, begitu pula penularan virus Nipah dan Hendra," kata Jamie Childs, pakar epdemi dari Yale University.

Kanker prostat adalah penyakit kanker yang berkembang di prostat, sebuah kelenjar dalam sistem reproduksi lelaki. Likopen adalah salah satu zat yang terdapat dalam warna sayur dan buah, yang memiliki fungsi untuk mencegah kanker prostat.

"Likopen akan muncul saat tomat direbus hingga lembek seperti bubur, karena zat ini terletak pada inti buah tomat," jelas Samuel. Ikatan inti pada buah tomat tidak akan terlepas pada saat dikonsumsi secara mentah.

"Memang, bila direbus kandungan vitamin c, betakaroten, dan lainnya akan hilang. Namun tomat menjadi istimewa karena kandungan likopen. Vitamin dan betakaroten bisa didapat dari sayur dan buah lainnya," kata Samuel.

Oleh sebab itu Samuel menganjurkan untuk mengkonsumsi setidaknya lima jenis sayur dan buah dengan aneka warna setiap harinya. Lebih lanjut Samuel memaparkan bahwa karotenoid seperti likopen tidak akan terserap usus tanpa bantuan minyak.

"Maka campurlah 'bubur' tomat dengan sesendok minyak canola atau minyak zaitun. Dua minyak ini jauh lebih sehat dibandingkan minyak sayur lainnya," jelas Samuel.

“Perubahan terjadi sedikit demi sedikit, dan itu tidak berdampak pada penglihatan. Kita mungkin tidak merasakan apa-apa awalnya, sampai kita merasakan ada sesuatu yang tidak beres, dan saat itu penyakit itu mungkin sudah sangat parah,” papar Viitale.

Dr. David Friedman dari Johns Hopkins School of Medicine di Baltimore memimpin studi mengenai kebutaan dari tahun 1999 sampai 2002 dan dari 2005 hingga 2008. Ia mengatakan, “Faktor utama penyebab meningkatnya kebutaan adalah apabila seorang menderita diabetes selama 10 tahun atau lebih.”

Healthy eating and nutrition for the elderly is

Water

Zinc

zinc.

Calcium
Calcium is one ingredient that most elderly folks
simply aren't getting enough of.  Most believe
that milk upsets their stomach, and therefore they

mg of calcium a day, and nonfat powdered milk can
be used in recipes as a substitute for milk.  Other
foods such as yogurt, low fat cheese, and broccoli
can also help you meet the requirements for calcium.

facotr must be produced by the stomach.  Most elderly
people suffer from a deficiency in B12 because they
have a condition known as atrophic gastritis.  This
condition causes inflammation of the stomach,
bacterial overgrowth, and the intrinsic factor.
Without the intrinsic factor, this vitamin can be
absorbed.

Each one of the above nutrients are needed to keep
an aged body in good health.  Elderly individuals
should try to stay active and strive for a well
balanced diet.  Even though the aged body isn't the
same as it used to be, proper care and the right
nutrients can help the elderly enjoy a healthy and
long life.

Teori lain menyatakan bahwa kadar glukosa mempengaruhi respon kekebalan vagina. Ketika kadar glukosa dalam darah meningkat, sistem kekebalan dalam vagina akan menurun dan tidak mampu melawan infeksi jamur sebagaimana mestinya.
2. Suka pakai celana ketat
Mengenakan celana jeans super ketat atau pakaian yang terbuat dari bahan yang tidak dapat menyerap keringat, dapat membuat area di sekitar vagina lembab akibat sirkulasi udara yang tidak lancar. Jamur penyebab infeksi jamur dapat berkembang dengan sempurna jika lingkungan di sekitar vagina lembab dan gelap.

Beralihlah ke pakaian yang terbuat dari bahan katun untuk memungkinkan aliran udara yang lebih baik pada vagina. Selain itu, segera ganti pakaian dalam Anda yang basah oleh keringat setelah berolahraga agar tidak memicu tumbuhnya jamur.
3. Kurang tidur
Buruknya kualitas tidur dapat melemahkan sistem kekebalan tubuh seseorang, sehingga penting bagi wanita untuk meningkatkan kualitas tidurnya agar terhindar dari berbagai masalah kesehatan, termasuk infeksi jamur. Sistem kekebalan tubuh yang lemah dapat mengganggu kestabilan pH vagina dan menciptakan lingkungan yang mendukung pertumbuhan jamur.
4. Stres
Stres merupakan salah satu penyebab utama menurunnya sistem kekebalan tubuh, sehingga wanita yang mengalami stres lebih mungkin mengembangkan infeksi jamur. Untuk mengurangi kemungkinan tersebut serta menurunkan dampak berbahaya stres terhadap risiko kesehatan lainnya, segera atasi stres dengan meditasi, yoga, dan olahraga teratur.

5. Menggunakan cairan pembersih vagina
Infeksi jamur juga dapat dipicu oleh penggunaan tisu, pantyliners, atau cairan pembersih vagina yang mengandung pewangi. Hal ini dapat mengubah keseimbangan pH pada vagina serta mengurangi bakteri alami tubuh yang membantu pertumbuhan melawan jamur.

Produk-produk tersebut juga dapat mengiritasi kulit di sekitar vagina. Akan lebih baik jika Anda mencuci vagina dengan sabun lembut dan air hangat, kemudian keringkan vagina dengan handuk kering yang bersih.
6. Konsumsi obat-obatan tertentu
Konsumsi obat-obatan tertentu seperti kontrasepsi oral, antibiotik, dan steroid juga dapat memiliki efek samping infeksi jamur. Meskipun antibiotik dapat membunuh bakteri penyebab penyakit, antibiotik juga dapat membunuh bakteri baik yang memiliki sifat antijamur, sehingga memberikan lebih banyak ruang bagi jamur untuk tumbuh.
